Klaus Welle, Former Secretary-General of the European Parliament 16/05/2023 - 19h30 | Conférence apéritif

--- CONFERENCE IN ENGLISH ---

« Russia, the war against Ukraine and the consequences for the European Union »

The Russian aggression against Ukraine marks the end of the post 1991 European history. Far from being just a local or regional conflict, the outcome will decide under which rules we will have to live in decades to come.

The idea and practice of Empire is reappearing on the European continent. Under pressure, the European Union is transforming and developing capacities in the area of security and defence and becoming complimentary to NATO.

Globally the issue of China is more and more on the table. China is clearly supporting Russia, while stopping short of the delivery of weapons. A global bipolar system is on the horizon which questions if not reverts 30 years of globalisation.

This conference will be held in English only.
